MISSION STATEMENT

SLCH USA's mission is to respond to the needs of the impoverished children that live in the rural areas of South Africa; a country currently in the grips of an HIV / AIDS pandemic. Umzinyathi, a province in the rural area surrounding Durban, South Africa is our focus - and has the highest rate of HIV / AIDS in South Africa. We provide financial and planning support to children being served at the Sihawukelwe Lauren's Children’s Home in Umzinyathi, South Africa. This is accomplished by giving our time, talents, and financial support by assisting the community of extended families in support of these children and to improve the temporary residence center for those children that do not yet have a place to live. Our mission is to care for orphaned and vulnerable children while they move through the process of applying for and receiving state grants, to provide short-term housing, food medical care, education and to assist them as they transition to permanent foster care. By answering this call, it is our ultimate goal to bring hope, stability, love and childhood joy into their lives.

SLCH USA is a not-for-profit organization that is focused exclusively on supporting humanitarian needs for children in South Africa. This effort was originally started by Christ Church Cathedral, the cathedral for the Episcopal diocese of middle Tennessee located in Nashville. This effort was initially supported by their Global Missions Program as part of their international outreach efforts supporting humanitarian needs around the world.

Because of the scope of the project, the church decided to separate this effort from the church as its own non-profit entity that will allow for independent control and board oversight. The rsult of this separation will allow for greater access to fund raising and more direct strategic planning and direction for the continuing development of this program. SLCH USA has been granted 501 ( c ) 3 status and was incorporated in March 2006, creating the current organization.
