Financial Support

As a non-profit organization, SLCH USA is totally dependent on donations, grants from both individuals, corporations, religious organizations, and foundations- no donation is too small.

95% of every dollar goes to support our children In South Africa.   

SLCH USA operates totally on a voluntary basis - there are no paid employees and expenses incurred in the U.S. relate strictly to administrative expenses such as telephone costs for communicating with SLCH overseas, banking charges, legal and other miscellaneous costs such as supplies and stationary.  The majority of expenses in South Africa relate to the care of the children including food, clothing, school fees, medical care, school transportation and maintenance for the grounds at the facility.  We also pay for on-site caregivers at the facility in Umzinyathi and other minor administrative expenses in South Africa including certain accounting costs for handling financial transactions on our behalf overseas, banking charges for our South African accounts and telephone.

SLCH USA continues its Capital Campaign effort that started in late 2006 to raise funds to complete all phases of the renovation plan for the main building that will be our permanent facility. In early 2007, engineers were engaged to perform detailed surveys, analysis of the current structures, and  create final plans for the renovation project, and, this initial phase is now nearly complete.  

We are greatful to all of our prior donors for their thoughtful and unselfish giving, which has allowed us to reach our phase one  goal level of $100,000. We are now nearing completion of this phase and we expect the children to occupy this new facility by September or October 2007.

Our Capital Campaign total goal remains at $250,000 - which will allow us to complete the remaining phases of our planned building renovation efforts.  We are hopeful that through the generosity of our many supporters we will reach this important overall goal in the very near future.  As we approach this milestone, we will also be initiating an important new fund raising campaign designed to raise funds geared towards operating expense support. While we have been very fortunate to have on-going grants to support our organization's operating needs, this still does not cover all of our annual operating costs. As such, we will be initiating this new operating expense campaign as our next major fund raising endeavor . We hope that you will continue to consider the children of SLCH in your future giving decisions.
